ADVANCED ALLIED HEALTH PRACTITIONERS KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Greet and prepare the patient in the pre-operative area
Anticipate and support the needs of the surgical team
Assist OR staff with patient positioning, prepping, and draping
Support the surgeon by selecting instruments and equipment
Maintain a clear surgical field by holding open incisions
Control bleeding and ensure hemostasis during procedures
Assist in closing incisions and completing the surgical procedure

CONTINUING MEDICAL EDUCATION
Texas Surgical assistants need to complete at least 36 hours of continuing education every 24 months. The course in human trafficking prevention must be completed prior to each renewal. Excess hours are applied/reported according to their Category.
